Our Guinea Pigs

by | April 15, 2021 | Permayouth | 0 comments

We have just added two new additions to our farm… Floppy and Moppy, two long haired Texel Guinea Pigs!

Texels are a gorgeous floppy-haired breed of guinea pig who love cuddles and lap time. Our girls are still getting used to their new home and are still a little frightened of us.

As guinea pigs are not a strictly permaculture animal, we have done our best to make them as permaculture-y as we can.

When they are brushed we intend on saving the fur they shed for felting with. They are very still and make wonderful models for me to draw and paint (for those of you who don’t know, I am an illustrator).

All their food is home grown, they are fed on fresh grass, dried grass-hay from our land, as well as fresh veg (lettuce, carrots, etc).

Floppy and Moppy are indoor guinea pigs, their bedding is old fleece blankets, towels and jumpers sewn together for bedding. I am hoping to make some tutorials on home-sewn things for guinea pigs.

We are also welcoming four new hens onto our farm who were given to us from a friend who moved away.

Thank you for reading!
