Commission an original artwork from a refugee youth

$60.00

Commission an original artwork from a refugee youth from Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda - all members of Permayouth.

A unique opportunity to purchase incredible artworks created by four hugely talented young refugees who live on a refugee camp in Uganda. Ashuza Josué (12), Aksanti Bafunyempaka (15), Sharon Safari (17) and Carine Maombi Chibembe (16) are participants of the Nakivale Permayouth program, learning and implementing permaculture principles to grow healthy food and to help create food security.

Here's how it works:

  • You send in a photo to us of something or someone that is special to you.
  • Refugee youth artists will produce a painted artwork from your image.
  • You receive a high quality digital image of the artwork to print.
  • 100% percent of your payment goes directly to the refugee artists.

Permaculture, nature and art are strongly aligned and it’s beautiful that these young people can express their creativity for positive benefit to their community. The Permaculture Education Institute's charity led by Morag Gamble - the Ethos Foundation - supports young people in camps across East Africa, helping them to complete their permaculture design and teaching studies so they can share that knowledge to others in the camps and set up and run their own successful permaculture program and livelihoods.

This art program is being coordinated in the camp by Ansima Rolande - a refugee from Democratic Republic of Congo who's spent years living in the camp. She's a member of the Permaculture Education Institute, a local permaculture teacher and leader of Nakivale's Permayouth hub and Permakids programs.
